Electromagnetic wave scattering from a random layer with rough interfaces II: Diffusive intensity
نویسنده
چکیده
A general approach for the calculation of the incoherent intensity scattered by a random medium with rough boundaries has been developed using a Green function formalism. The random medium consists of spherical particles whose physical repartition is described by a pair-distribution function. The boundary contribution is included in the Green functions with the help of scattering operators which can represent any existing theory of scattering by rough surfaces. By using a standard procedure, we derive the integral BetheSalpeter equation under the ladder approximation and, by differentiation, the vectorial radiative transfer equation. Furthermore, with the help of our formalism, the boundary conditions necessary to solve the radiative transfer equation are expressed in terms of the scattering operators of the rough surfaces. Finally, using the reciprocity properties of the Green functions, we are able to include the enhanced backscattering contributions to take into account every state of polarization of the incident and the scattered waves. § [email protected] Electromagnetic wave scattering from a random layer with rough interfaces II 2

Electromagnetic wave scattering from a random layer with rough interfaces I: Coherent field
The problem of an electromagnetic wave scattered from a random medium layer with rough boundaries is formulated using integral equations which involve two kinds of Green functions. The first one describes the wave scattered by the random medium and the rough boundaries, and the second one which corresponds to the unperturbed Green functions describes the scattering by an homogeneous layer with ...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Wave Scattering from Rough Boundaries Interfacing Inhomogeneous Media and Application to Snow-Covered Sea Ice
In this study a new analytical formulation for electromagnetic wave scattering from rough boundaries interfacing inhomogeneous media is presented based on the first-order approximation of the small perturbation method. First, we considered a scattering problem for a single rough boundary embedded in a piecewise continuously layered medium. As a key step, we introduced auxiliary wave propagation...
متن کاملScattering and Transmission of Waves in Multiple Random Rough Surfaces: Energy Conservation Studies with the Second Order Small Perturbation Method
Energy conservation is an important consideration in wave scattering and transmission from random rough surfaces and is particularly important in passive microwave remote sensing. In this paper, we study energy conservation in scattering from layered random rough surfaces using the second order small perturbation method (SPM2). SPM2 includes both first order incoherent scattering and a second o...
متن کاملElectromagnetic wave scattering from rough layered interfaces: analysis with the small perturbation method and the small slope approximation
We propose a theoretical study on the electromagnetic wave scattering from layered structures with an arbitrary number of rough interfaces by using the small perturbation method and the small slope approximation. The interfaces are characterized by Gaussian height distributions with zero mean values and Gaussian correlation functions. They can be correlated or not. The electromagnetic field in ...
متن کاملStatistics of radiation in a disordered medium: from ballistic to diffusive regime
The distribution function for the intensity of radiation propagating in a random medium is analyzed for arbitrary multiplicity of scattering (for arbitrary relation between the distance of propagation and mean free path), including as limiting cases purely ballistic and purely diffusive regimes. The calculation is fulfilled in the framework of diagram techniques and is based on the topological ...
